OUR MISSION
May the 4th – Louisiana is organized by M4Louisiana, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) that blends Star Wars fandom with Cajun flair to raise funds for H.L. Bourgeois High School Band. Now in its fifth year, our event has grown from a small parking-lot gathering into a dynamic celebration of music, community, and creative fun—all while empowering local students to thrive in their musical journeys.
WHO WE ARE
We are M4Louisiana—a dedicated group of Star Wars fans, local business owners, and community leaders who came together to create the May the 4th Festival. What started as a small gathering has evolved into a full-day event that draws visitors from all over the region. Inspired by the fun Star Wars pun “May the 4th be with you,” we hold our festival on or around the first Saturday of May each year, perfectly capturing that celebratory spirit.
WHAT WE DO
- Celebrate Local Culture: We highlight the unique flavors and talents of Houma and the wider Louisiana area, featuring everything from Cajun cuisine to local crafts.
- Foster Creativity: The festival promotes creative expression for all ages with Roux Wars cooking competitions, costume contests, a Kessel Run 5K, and an Intergalactic Circus.
- Give Back: All proceeds from the festival go directly to the H.L. Bourgeois High School Band fundraiser, providing instruments, uniforms, and performance opportunities for student musicians in our community.
WHY HOUMA, LA?
Houma is a city steeped in history and southern charm, located just an hour southwest of New Orleans. Known for its lively Mardi Gras celebrations and rich cultural traditions, Houma provides the perfect setting for a unique Star Wars-themed event that feels distinctly local. Visitors can enjoy a day filled with music, dance, food, and fandom in a welcoming, family-friendly environment.
